Quantcast National Do-Not-Call Put On Hold - Derek's Rantings and Musings

National Do-Not-Call Put On Hold

The National Do-Not-Call list, set to go live October 1st, has been put on hold pending a court case. The Direct Marketing Associations claims free-speech will be impeded, blah blah blah.

Free speech guarantees you the right to say something, it does not guarantee you the means to say something. I've got every right to choose to not have my service, which I pay a monthly fee for, used to carry your telemarketing crap.

I'm sick of phone spam (telemarketers) and I'm sick of e-mail spam. My snailmail mailbox is filled each day with 95% junk mail. Pretty much the only communications medium that's still usable in any sense of the word is face to face communication, and that doesn't really scale well.

I'm about ready to move to Montana, live in a cabin somewhere in the middle of freakin' nowhere, and live solely off the game I can kill.

I didn't blog about this the other day, since it had been covered adequately elsewhere, and although I was pissed about it, I could vent on other people's comments. However, tonight's news just blew me away. So, a legal technicality... Read More

Could you make a second room for me? Somehow the spammers got ahold of my cell phone number...and now I'm never alone!

Actually, I'm really glad I live in NY, which already has a great "do not call" list which actually works fairly well - I haven't had a telemarketing call at my house since 3 months after I moved in.

I feel sorry that any federal court would do something like this at the very last minute - obviously heavily influenced by the industry itself.

I couldn't agree with you more - there is no excuse for somebody using something that I pay good money for every month to invade my home and hawk goods to me when I don't want it. I can't believe that the DMA still believes that they have the unalienable right to do this. Snail-mail junkmail is a bit different, since you can sort through and throw away at your leisure, and I really don't have the same fundamental complaint with it that I do with the use of email and phone.

Colorado is a better choice than Montana, shorter drive time to the NRA conventions in Las Vegas to get new guns/ammo. :-)

PA also has a great DNC list...signed up last year and the only call I've gotten since then has been the policeman's ball (and that's because I've donated in the past).

Somehow I'm having a hard time viewing Derek in an orange one-piece shooting at geese...where are the PETA protestors when you need them! Just be sure to bring the typewriter with you, and a copy of the Anarchists Cookbook just to really fill out that Ted Kaczynski look. :-)

BTW, cell prefixes are automatically barred from telemarketing calls. Get the ANI, do a reverse-lookup at home and sue away. Small Claims is always a nice place to take these bozos to, if they even show up. Or if they keep calling, just screw with their heads (ask them if they own or rent, and that you know someone who could save them hundreds of dollars over what they are paying now and for just $59.95 you could give them the information to make millions).

since when has Ted Nugent had a blog?

Are your math skills good enough to go Mail bomber on us?
