Quantcast No vmstat?!!? - Derek's Rantings and Musings

No vmstat?!!?

How can OS X not include vmstat?!?!

Here I am, in a situation where it looks like I'm swapping, so I decided "Hey, let's take a look at the output of vmstat and see if I'm paging in and out!"

Except there's no vmstat.

That's gay as hell.

for some unknown reasons, it's "vm_stat"

Oh my god yeah, it's SO GAY! vmstat goes around singing show tunes and accessorizing like mad! And it's got an entourage of fag hags trailing it! And sometimes it stars in television shows like Vmstat Eye for the Network Guy!

So, so gay.

It's not an "unknown reason", vm_stat is the standard command name on Mach-based systems (both of them!!)

If you google around a bit you can find posts c.1995 from NeXTSTEP users who moved on to other platforms asking the same question, but backwards. They wanted to know why the underscore was missing in vmstat. : )
