OK, I keep finding lots of references to things which will parse X12 files, but I have yet to find any cool Perl modules to generate X12 files that you might send to a healthcare organization.
Any readers know of code that already does this? I bet if I'd been a dick and kept a copy of the source-tree at Byram, that I might have actually found that code lying around somewhere. Damn my integrity all to hell....
Is it really immoral to take code you've written or contributed to with you when you leave? I know a lot of the stuff we write here we do a particular way because it would be more beneficial for use in future projects, whether those future projects be personal or professional... Is it really wrong to kill 2 birds with one stone on the company dime, as long as they are at least one of the birds?
And sorry, no, we had to write our own internal 837 parsing and generation class... (no, it's not Perl, so you wouldn't want it.)
It is immoral if you don't have the rights to it. Work for hire belongs to the employer. If they don't let you have a copy, you don't have a moral right to a copy.
Doesn't matter in this case anyway, though, because I never did any of the X12 coding @ Byram, I would have been leeching someone else's work. :-P
Derek,
Do you have any more questions re X12 837?
