Is there someone out there who honestly believes that the original Poseidon Adventure wasn't good enough and needs to be re-made?

you just hear about this? it's been in development for quite some time.
i just hope they reanimate Shelly Winters and Jack Albertson. :)
Why do you assume that a remake will be "fucking up" the origional? Do you just assume that any remake is worse than the original? I would love to see a non-Lucas "Phantom Menace", for *anything* would be better than the origional. Really. Watching sphagetti slung against the wall, stick, and slowly fall, would be more entertaining than the origional Phantom Menace.
(You may find it difficult to believe, but I actually know a guy that paid $500 to see Phantom Menace, and even went on TV with a "Fashion Crisis" type of E! show to help get ready for the event. Yes, there are some real loosers in the world :-) I've got that E! TV show on tape -- hillarious!
Hollywood has an absolutely horrible track record for "remakes". If you go back and look at all the remakes of movies, and count up the number of times it was "done well" versus "completely fucked it up", the latter will win by a long shot.
Your point about Phantom Menace is a red herring -- it wasn't a re-make of anything, and nobody knew how badly the prequels were going to suck until they saw that abomination. So basically, it's largely irrelevant to the point of the post. :-)
Actually, I'll agree with Jeffrey.
I think if anyone remade Phantom Menace, it would probably be better. Heck if they used the original cast of Lancelot Link it would probably win an Oscar.
But I'll also agree that it's beside the point.
Fact is, Hollywood is physically incapable of coming up with new ideas. In fact, I'm fairly certain that the way they make movies now is via a large dart board and a fist full of headshot darts.
I saw an ad for a remake of The Island, which was an insanely bad 70's flick about an island filled with lycra clad clones of the rich and famous turned upside down when they discover an old beer can.
Oh yeah, there's a winner.
Of course the comments about Phantom Menace were tangential, but were required in order to tie in your E! appearance (which I should encode and put on a server so everyone could see you swiginging a plastic light saber with a decided "this is the most dorky thing I've ever done" look on your face) :-)
Y'know, were you to do that, I think I might have to report you to the Copyright Gestapo.
Shit, you don't live in the United States any more... I have no leverage over you!
NOOOOOOOO! :-)
Ah, yes. That movie. A remake is utterly unnecessary. While we're at it: Why did they remake "Flight of the Phoenix". Just watched it yesterday and it kicks ass -- it's 40 years old and absolutely fascinating. Oh, it's with Borgnine as well. Maybe there's something going on with him?
