We want to buy a used car. We want to find the car that has the features we want. Specifically, we'd like a list of all the cars that have the options available that we want, so we can then figure out which of those cars suck, according to Consumer Reports, and then use the rest as a "potential shopping list" to go to dealers with.
Except that it's really hard to find a list of, say, "all used cars' makes and models that have all wheel drive". or "all wheel drive OR four wheel drive". Etc., you take my meaning.
I googled this for a while and found something that purports to do it for NEW cars, but was remarkably good at feeding me FWD vehicles, even though I told it I didn't want FWD at all.
Anyone ever found such a tool in the past? share. share.
What about autotrader that's what I've been using this week.
link didn't upload. autotrader.com put your zip in the power search and it gives you a whole page of options.
go to Cars.com and type in AWD in the advanced search.
Dear Mr. Idol,
I've already tried that. You might reference the above paragraph:
"I googled this for a while and found something that purports to do it for NEW cars, but was remarkably good at feeding me FWD vehicles, even though I told it I didn't want FWD at all."
... so please give your sneer to someone else. :-)
I searched at www.Cars.com because I knew I would likely be able to get an answer to the problem if the search failed. However, AutoTrader appears to be the better choice from an ease of use standpoint. Cars.com is owned by major media companies "Belo Corp., Gannett Co. Inc., Knight Ridder Inc., The McClatchy Co., Tribune Co. and The Washington Post Co."
so I expected it to be one of the best. Also, I have found that major search engines now have a problem using the Keyword "not"
When I was messing around with this, I ended up trying both sites, and found that doing searches like
AWD 4WD [ Any Of These Terms ]
... would still return me FWD vehicles.
In the end, though, it's a moot point, as we found the vehicle we wanted two days ago, by blind luck of walking onto the lot and D falling in love with it. :-)
