Best Game Ever

| | Comments (0)

I'm a big fan of the guys over at Improv Everywhere, who always seem to have something really cool and fun up their sleeves. But their latest "mission" is my personal favorite.

They set out to surprise two Little League teams in Hermosa Beach, CA with the full-blown Major League Baseball experience. NBC Sports and the Goodyear Blimp add to the experience as two teams of ten years olds have their best baseball game ever....

Sarah Silverman Is My Hero

| | Comments (0)

I feel like I should pay attention to things. I'd been seeing people talk about the Sarah Silverman video from Jimmy Kimmel's show. I'd never got around to watching it. But seriously, this is some of the funniest shit I've ever, ever, seen.

It's mostly not-safe-for-work, but then again it aired on network TV, so use your own judgment:

Movies That Should Have Been

| | Comments (0)

My old friend, Marc, sent me a link to the 10 best sci-fi films that never got made. It was amazing to me that every one of them, I'm like yup, I'd pay good money to see that movie done right....

OK, Seriously. Best cover ever.

I know other people have already seen this, it's been on the radio a ton I imagine (dunno for sure, last time I listened to "music" radio for any longer than a few minutes was a while ago)... but... Disturbed's cover of "Land of Confusion" is just plain awesome. And the video, done by Todd McFarland of Spawn fame, is even better:

Best. Cover. Ever.

The Trooper as performed by some ten year old kids.

Seriously, someone should sign these kids. The singer's no Dickinson, but... damn.

This is your official announcement: You can now purchase the Live 8 concert DVD set which includes a whole lot of crap, a couple nuggets of goodness, and -- on Disc 3 -- the most important bit, the entire, uncut, unedited, no inane MTV voiceovers, Pink Floyd set including Roger Waters.

Ignore the fact that both Amazon and the Box copy indicate that it's 4:3 full-screen. It is, in fact, 100% 16:9 bad-ass Pink Floyd glory.

Seriously, buy this now. For all you know, it's the last Pink Floyd performance ever, and you'll be helping a good cause at the same time. How can you go wrong?

The Script We Never Saw

| | Comments (1)

This is some of the funniest shit yet. It's the Revenge of the Sith script as only true fans could have re-written it. An example:

                       EWAN MCGREGOR
It's over, Hayden. If you jump over
to me, I will cut your shit off.

HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN
You underestimate my power to
decide not to jump to the low ground
in front of you where I will be able
to safely continue duelling, but to
instead try to jump all the way over
you and get my shit cut off!

He JUMPS and gets SLICED AND DICED. Then COMPLETELY BURNED.

HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN
Motherfucker!

EWAN MCGREGOR
I'm leaving, Hayden! Even though
you are writhing in agony, I won't
do the humane thing and put you out
of your misery. You're the dick,
though.

Orson Scott Card, author of Ender's Game, et al, is a certifiable asshat.

Overheard In New York

|

I've been doing nothing but raving about Overheard In New York, a blog that chronicles the various things its submitters have overheard being said at various places in the city.

For example, from a recent post:

Street Preacher: Have you found Jesus?!
Guy #1: Why? Did you lose him?
Street Preacher: Have you found your Lord, our Savior, Jesus Christ?
Guy #2: Next time, try using better fucking nails!

--42nd & 8th

The best part about these quotes is that in almost every case, you can just "see" the people in question who are saying these things.

DVD And Book Collections

| | Comments (4)

I finally noticed within the last week or two I guess, that the two pieces of software I use to maintain my DVD database and my book database, both have export-to-HTML features. (Why it took me this long to notice that they had this extremely basic feature is beyond me).

Now, for most people, obviously, a piece of software to keep track of your books and DVDs seems like overkill but, well, I've got a lot. In the "Dream House I Design Some Day"TM, there is an honest to goodness "library", complete with the rolling ladder and all that jazz.

Anyhow, if you're interested in poking around "what's cluttering up Derek's shelves", you can take a look at my DVD collection or my book collection. They're also linked in the sidebar, in case you should happen to care. :-)

RIP Rodney Dangerfield

|

I can watch Caddyshack or Back to School over and over again, and Rodney Dangerfield's performance in both of those can still bring me to tears with laughter each time.

Rest in peace, brother. Maybe you can get some respect wherever you are now.

Pete Has a Blog

|

Pete, a good friend of mine literally since the day he was born, has set himself up with a blog over on Blogspot.

Pete is probably just as cynical as I am, so I know once he gets on a roll it'll be great reading.
